I joined BYM in 98/99 after a host of other clubs including D'Dee UTD D'Dee YM, Abbey Villa, Castle UTD, Ards Blues before spells with Bangor / Bangor Reserves, Ballyclare Res, H+W Welders and Civil Service. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the YM and in my 8 seasons I have won the players player award 4 times and top goal scorer award once for the first team!

I have recently (Oct 07) taken charge of the 1st Team and look forward to the challenge I have set both myself and my management team.

At the age of 14 I started playing for Comber Boys in the Downpatrick League, progressed to Comber Rec until my early twenties. I then moved on to Brentwood from Ards, before moving to Ballycastle. There I played for Armoy and had an Irish Cup appearence against Glentoran at the Oval. I moved back to Ards in 92, and rejoined Brentwood before joining BYM in '97, and took on the YM under 14's. Their first season in the Penninsula Boys League was very successful, finishing runners up in the league, and winning the Knock Out cup, defeating Comber Youth 4 - 3 at Castlereagh Park in the final. The team was moved to the South Belfast league the following season in '99.

I joined Bangor Young Men around 2000 after my previous Club Twelfth Bangor Old Boys ceased. I am 38 years of age. I have consistently played Junior Football since a teenager when I had a short spell with Third Bangor Old Boys. I have been Club Secretary for approximately 4 years when the mantle was kindly handed on to me by Colin Gabbey after I made the mistake of wandering into a bar not realising the AGM was going on and they were looking for a volunteer. Having said that I have enjoyed this challenging role over the last few years and acknowledge it a privilege to operate in this capacity for the Club.

I played my first match for the Young Men as a 14 year old in 1977 following in the footsteps of my father who had been player, manager and Treasurer of the club. The following year I played in the semi-final of the Junior Shield as a 15 year old, but unfortunately we lost in a replay. I have played for Ards, had two spells with Bangor and a short spell with 1st Bangor before injury forced me to stop playing in 1987. After a break of 10 years I came back to play in 1997 and played my last match in November 2005 - having played for the club in 4 different decades !! I have won Young player of the Year, 1st and 3rd team player of the Year and two Beckett Cup winner's medals in the club's time in the Churches League. I also represented the club in the Under 18 Churches League select side in 1979. I am currently on the Club Committee and the Youth Committee, and look forward to continuing what is now a family association of 57 years with the Young Men.

I joined the club in 1989 and still remember my first team call up alongside Peter Rea soon after. '' I also remember my first match especially afterwards when Lenny was peeing down my leg in the shower afterwards...Welcome to the First Team Neil'' Having twice won the Young Player of the Year award I moved onto Bryansburn Rangers on two separate occasions and came back with two Amateur League 2c Winners medals. ''I have great memories and made some great friends whilst at Bryansburn Rangers, though I think even they know where my Heart lies''. I signed for Harland and Wolff Welders as a 19 year old but recovering from a broken leg with the YM a season earlier proved a step up too soon.  ''I remember playing against Distillery (lost 10-1) and Crusaders (lost 6-0) and was glad to see Kirk Hunter not getting stripped that day''.

I currently run the Second Team alongside Simon Nixon and Craig Boyd!!!

Joined the YM in 2004 and was made captain in my first season, when I also won 1st team player of the year (managers). Have continued to be involved in the club both on and off the pitch, noteably blitzing all before me in the golf society. This is my first year on the committee and my motivation is to assist in improving matters on the pitch. I have also attained sufficient sponsorship from a local property developer which will assist in acquiring new kits for the 1st and and both Youth Teams.

I joined the club back in 1987, this is my 20th anniversary season. I have, like a lot of the boys, tried far away fields but never for very long periods, and always managed to find my way home. During my time here I have had the pleasure of playing with some very good players, and the misfortune of ‘playing’ alongside some very bad ones. The great thing about BYM is that all have been made equally welcome; the effort is important. Highlights include the 2nd team winning 3D in the 90/91 season under Billy McCullough and Tom Douglas. That season that seems a very long time ago, but I firmly believe we will return sooner rather than later. I remember scoring for the 2nds from my own penalty area and for the 3rds direct from kick off. Julie and I have made some really special friends through this wee club. And our kids Terri and Stewart, like so many other, have grown up as part of the extended family that is Bangor Young Men. I have been elected onto the committee for this incoming season 07/08, and look forward to what ever challenge thrown our way.

I joined the club as a 16 year old and was immediately thrown into the cut and thrust of the 2nds. This was slightly different to the the football I had experienced the previous season with Groomsport Colts Youth Team. The following season saw me promoted to the 1st Team where I was scouted by Linfield Youth and managed to make my debut for them against Northern Ireland under 18's at Windsor Park. I subsequently joined Bangor Colts for a season before returning home to the YM. I have played many games for the club including several memorable cup runs (Semi final Cochrane Corry and Walter Moore) I am currently a member of the club committee and hope to gain my coaching badges in order to help with the future running of the club. UP THE BYM!!!!!
